Funding Pathways

How We Identify Opportunities

The McElhattan Foundation is committed to research-driven philanthropy that seeks solutions to root causes and creates lasting impact. We identify funding opportunities through ongoing research, partnerships, and strategic exploration across our program areas. Funding opportunities may be available through the following pathways.

Challenge Grants

View Challenge Grants →

The Foundation launches Challenge Grants to accelerate breakthrough solutions to complex challenges identified through its research and program priorities. Challenge Grants are a competitive application process and announced through the Foundation’s communications channels.

Requests for Proposals (RFPs)

The Foundation issues public Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to address targeted problems and opportunities emerging from its research and program priorities. Open RFPs will be posted on this website and announced through Foundation communications channels.

Invitation-Only Opportunities

The Foundation invites organizations to submit proposals when their work aligns with a priority in a program area, research initiative, or specific funding opportunity.

By Invitation Only

Inquiries

Organizations may submit inquiries through the Grants Portal. The Inquiry Form is intended as a communication channel for organizations to share ideas with the Foundation. Submission of an inquiry does not constitute an application, guarantee consideration, or indicate eligibility for current or future funding opportunities. Due to the volume of communications received, the Foundation may not be able to respond to every inquiry.
